Meza Cruz is a playful yet elegant story that sits at the intersection of several cultures. In the design of Meza Cruz, we explored these “mestizaje” or mixed culture expressions through spatial design.
The space is woven with symbolism, folklore, and the application of vivid colors, creating a vibe that is symbiotic with the unique flavors found in the Peruvian cuisine offered.
We leveraged the vibrance and texture inspired by the spirited Chicha culture. The influence is felt in the bold mural of a “mestizo” splashed across the first wall seen when arriving at brightly-hued lighting fixtures and textured walls. The sleek stone table (Meza) references Spanish catholicism with a cleverly placed hidden cross (Cruz) embedded in the lighting fixture—and gives the space its namesake, Meza Cruz. The table itself is set in a communal style, featuring 14 seats that play into the superstition of 13 being an unlucky number.

We found unique Portuguese suppliers for customized furniture & tableware, rounding out the true “mestizaje”, or melting pot of refined Latin inspiration.
