A sanctuary nestled in the Latvian countryside offering spa therapies focused on naturally occuring blue clay–known for its antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and antitumoral qualities.
As nature is ever-evolving, and all life keeps following its rhythm, traditions and customs are often the reflection of such ebb and flow, represented by ancient rituals found in collective sauna baths used for healing and regeneration.
The natural expression of these cycles take shape in the design of the building in the same way it shapes its guests. The circular floor plan is designed to embody the safety of a nest, offering views from different perspectives from both inside and outside, the project emulating its unity with nature, creating layers of which nature can thrive. The building itself hovers above the ground on stilts, allowing for nature to continue existing beneath it, and fully encapsulating the space by nature, allowing for a symbiotic existence.
Just as the Latvian landscape, mostly flat and green, the concept seamlessly blends into the panoramic natural environment. The exterior is covered in straw clad and woven into a horse-hair like texture that insulates the structure, ideal for chilly Lavtian winters while still belonging to the surrounding landscape in the same way the birds belong to the trees—and the nests they create amongst them.
